Bitewise Privacy Policy
This page explains how Bitewise handles your personal information when you use the app, voice assistant, and related services.
It covers what we collect, how we use it, when we may share it, and the privacy choices available to you.
Information We Collect
We collect only the information needed to operate, support, improve, and secure the Bitewise services. If some required information is not provided, certain features may not work as intended.
Information you provide directly
This may include your name, email address, login credentials, profile photo, dietary preferences, allergen information, budget range, dining scenarios, reviews, photos, search content, and any messages you send to customer support.
Information collected automatically
This may include device details, operating system version, unique device identifiers, browser type, app usage information, viewed restaurants, session duration, log data, and cookie-related information used for functionality and analytics.
Location and voice input
Precise location data is collected only with your explicit consent. Voice input is processed so the app can understand your commands and preferences.
Information from third parties
We may receive basic account information from sign-in providers such as Google or Apple ID, as well as restaurant, location, review, and map data from third-party data providers.
More about sensitive personal information and voice processing
In some jurisdictions, precise geolocation, dietary preferences, allergen information, and certain voice data may be treated as sensitive personal information. We process this data only when needed to provide relevant features and, where required by law, only with your explicit consent.
Voice data is used for functional purposes such as recognizing commands and preferences. It is not used for biometric identification, identity verification, or profiling. Unless you explicitly agree to an additional use, voice data is not retained long term after processing is completed.
How We Use Information
We use personal information only when we have a valid legal basis and only for purposes related to providing and improving the Bitewise experience.
Running the service
We use information to create and manage accounts, provide app features, support voice interactions, and keep the service working reliably.
Personalized recommendations
We use information such as dietary preferences, allergen information, budget range, location permission, and prior interactions to recommend restaurants or dishes that may be more relevant to you.
Support, security, and improvement
We use information to respond to support requests, send service-related notices, improve product quality, maintain security, prevent fraud, and comply with legal obligations.
Legal basis: performance of a contract
This basis applies when we need to create and manage your account or provide core app features that you request.
Legal basis: consent
This basis applies to precise location data, voice input, non-essential cookies, and sensitive information where consent is required by law.
Legal basis: legitimate interests and legal obligations
We may rely on legitimate interests to improve the product, maintain security, and send necessary service communications. We may also process information when required to meet regulatory, law enforcement, audit, or compliance obligations.
AI Features
Bitewise uses artificial intelligence as part of the app experience, including voice recognition and recommendation systems.
How AI helps inside Bitewise
When you use the voice assistant or receive recommendations, you are interacting with AI-supported features designed to improve usability and relevance.
What recommendation logic may consider
Recommendation logic may take into account your dietary preferences, allergen information, budget range, authorized location data, and past interactions with the app.
What AI is not used for
We do not use automated processing to make decisions that produce legal effects or similarly significant impacts on you, such as employment or credit approval decisions.
Need more detail about automated processing?
You may contact our support channels if you want more information about how recommendations are generated or how AI-supported features work in the app.
International Transfers
Bitewise is headquartered in the United States, so your personal information may be transferred to and stored outside your country or region, including in the United States.
For users in the EU or EEA, we use appropriate safeguards for international transfers where required. These may include Standard Contractual Clauses approved by the European Commission, adequacy decisions, or your explicit consent where lawful and appropriate.
Retention Periods
We keep personal information only for as long as needed to fulfill the purposes described in this policy, unless a longer period is required or permitted by law.
| Data type | Retention approach |
|---|---|
| Account data | Retained for the life of your account and typically deleted within 90 days after account deletion, unless otherwise required by law. |
| Voice assistant data | Typically deleted or anonymized after processing. If you explicitly consent to an additional use, such as model training, it may be processed within the scope of that consent. |
| Log and usage data | Typically retained for 6 to 12 months for analytics, security, and service integrity purposes. |
